Poverty and Deprivation – 2003

Method: Qualitative and Quantitative

Public Opinion Research (POR) on SYDTF (The Social Solidarity and Assistance Fund) and the Affiliated SYDVs (Foundations for Social Solidarity and Assistance) and SHÇEK (Social Services and Child Protection Agency)

The research was conducted in 2003 (between July and November) under the auspices of the Social Risk Mitigating Project (SRMP) financed by the World Bank.

The study aimed to generate baseline information and key indications for a subsequent public information and communications campaign.

Particular objectives included the following (with regards to the missions and services of SYDTF, SYDVs and SHÇEK):

  • An assessment of how familiar target audiences, the public at large and stakeholders were with the organizations

  • Perception analyses about the organizations (corporate image)

  • Determining the level of public support for the organizations

The study employed both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The quantitative component comprised a public opinion poll conducted among a socioeconomically and culturally representative sample of the working age (15 years or older) population in Turkey, involving face-to-face interviews with 4132 respondents in home environments. Qualitative research included in-depth interviews and focus groups with selected respondents from the potential and actual beneficiaries and stakeholders of the organizations.

SAM presented reports on all findings in English and Turkish.
