The Bağcılar Municipal Census and Household Survey was carried out in order to ensure that the Urban Information System in Bağcılar included vital information about the population of Bağcılar.


 


Municipalities aim to fulfill societal needs and requests. For this, they require efficient use of sound data regarding present conditions and demands. As such, the Urban Information System (UIS) seeks to provide municipalities with data concerning the population in question.


 


UIS aggregates and updates all information necessary to grant the provision of physical, social and cultural services. Through the Household Survey, the UIS was able to include data regarding households in Bağcılar which enabled the municipality to pinpoint and respond to the pressing needs of the society. Besides explicating social, cultural, economic and educational characteristics of households in Bağcılar and thus helping to meet societal demands, the study also aided the municipality in achieving the most efficient way of allocating their scarce resources.



This is the view with which the Bağcılar Municipal Census and Household Survey was designed.


 


The study included:



  • 152,000 household interviews

  • Information collected about 650,000 people

  • 200 interviewers

  • All interviews conducted by handheld computers

  • Around 2000 interviews per day

  • A project office in Bağcılar with 25 employees

  • Quality control achieved electronically

  • An “economic standing score” calculated for each household

  • The preparation of a Household Database and its transfer to the Municipal Database
